Tetrapak Crafts

These simple and effective workshops show children how to make toy windmills, puppets, seed wallets or bird feeders out of tetra paks and other recycled materials.  The windmill can be used to frighten birds away from the garden, the puppets can be used for an environmentally themed puppet shows and the seed wallets come with seeds for herbs and a lesson on their health and culinary properties.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity to encourage discussion amongst the participants about where our waste goes and opportunities for re-use and recycling.  For older participants, the workshop is a great platform to talk about environmental issues by looking at the 3 main materials of the tetra pak and their differing carbon footprints and recycling potential.

The children at the workshop also receive a small worksheet, with design instructions, environmental questions and fun green advice.  Above all they get to make and take home a colourful, fun toy which encapsulates and symbolises the learning from the day.

We use participative and imaginative activities as a means to encourage consideration of the wider picture and ensure that the workshops are structured to include a balance of instruction, discussion and practical hands-on activities.  Our workshops can easily be adjusted to compliment many KS priorities so can be tailored to focus on a specific theme or learning outcome.
