The day begins with the arrival in Stanmer Park and a short walk through the countryside to Stanmer Organics and Earthship Brighton.

Once at Earthship Brighton, each class is split into groups which then revolve between the various activities. Groups range from 15 to 25 pupils to each group with a leader from the Low Carbon Trust or other organizations and with the groups' own adult helpers. Once the party is divided there are a number of activities that run simultaneously and the groups rotate between them. We can take a maximum of 100 pupils per day.

The activities that the children undertake are from an exciting range of making pencils from willow and charcoal, to mulching raised beds, to making recycled wallets from tetra-packs, to recycling workshops and finally visiting Earthship Brighton and experiencing all the renewable technologies there, including solar panels, wind turbines and rainwater harvesting systems. If it is sunny then lunch in held in the meadow or alternatively in Earthship Brighton.

Charly Greensted, a teacher from Oakmeed Community college said:

"Our visits have been eye openers and developed awareness for youngsters who wouldn't normally consider ecology or environment as important issues in their lives."

Staff in charge of visiting educational parties are advised that the Low Carbon Trust holds them fully responsible for the conduct of all members of their party during their visit. Adults accompanying a party are welcome and encouraged to participate in the activities, and we would appreciate their help.
